Professor Pete Lunn of the ESRI shared behavioral insights on COVID-19 with the Construction Industry Federation. The focus for the industry now is to reduce the likelihood of ‘importing’ Covid-19 onto sites and minimising any spread when it does inevitably arise.
Professor Lunn has reviewed several studies on COVID-19 and the key learnings from this presentation according to the Construction Industry Federation are as follows:
- Young men (under 40) underestimate the level of risk behind the advice given by authorities including employers.
- Young men are less likely to report symptoms including secondary symptoms meaning they can be highly infectious and asymptomatic onsite.
- Reminders are essential but they need to be varied otherwise they become background noise.
- Young people appear more concerned about giving rather than getting Covid.
